Your pregnancy at 34 weeks
What's happening with mum
You might notice around this time that your belly seems lower and more tilted forward. It could be that baby has dropped or settled into your pelvic area ready for birth. This is known as the engaged position and can happen weeks before your baby is due, especially if this is your first pregnancy.
While this can place added pressure on your hips, pelvis and bladder, making you feel you have to pass urine more frequently, it can also relieve the pressure on your diaphragm and upper body, making it easier to breathe and lessening symptoms of indigestion and heartburn.
What's happening with baby
At 34 weeks your son or daughter is definitely looking a lot more baby like. The extra fat being laid down now under their skin gives them a smoother, wrinkle free look and the vernix caseosa which begins to thicken this week, will soon be shed, leaving him clean and pink. His toenails and fingernails will have grown to the ends of his digits.
Baby has already been sucking his thumb for a few weeks but around now he will begin practising in earnest for latching on, the position babies dopt while breastfeeding.
If you are 34 pregnant your due date is from Monday, 6 November 2023 through Sunday, 12 November 2023.
