Cot death or SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) is the sudden and unexpected death of a baby, without a cause being found for the death.
Each year, around 3,500 babies die in the USA from SIDS.
Cot death occurs almost exclusively in babies younger than one year old, but can still occur up the age of five.
Nobody knows exactly what causes cot death, but there are a number of factors that reduce the risk.
