Whooping cough is very contagious and is caused by the bacterium 'Bordetella' pertussis. Infection occurs in humans through sneezing or coughing. In general, incubation time is 7 to 10 days. After coughing ends, patients are still contagious for 3 to 4 weeks. It is the most contagious during the first period, before coughing has begun. If the other family members have not been vaccinated, the risk of contagion is 90%
