Congratulations on the birth of your baby! This first month may be the scariest for you, as you get used to taking care of a fragile life, and your own life has just flipped upside down - make sure to accept help from friends and family.
At this early stage in his life, baby will spend most of their time sleeping and feeding, but plenty is going on "behind the scenes" as baby will process lots of information about the world.
- Baby can't see very far just yet, but will study your face and features when you come close and cuddle him, and will try to mimic your expressions.
- He won't be able to fully extend his limbs just yet, and may look a little scrunched up - he will gradually "stretch out" as he adjusts to being outside the womb.
- Baby will want between eight and fifteen feeds per day, and will tend to sleep between 16 and 17 hours per day.
- His only method of communication right now is crying, which he may do a lot. It doesn't necessarily mean he's unhappy - he just has no other way to "talk" to you.
